Sustainability in horticulture

February 1, 2024

Everybody talks about sustainability. It’s a hot topic within the horticultural industry, rightly so if you ask us. Let’s see what role sustainability plays in horticulture around the globe.

In the dynamic world of horticulture, where quality and efficiency are at the core of the activities, professional growers increasingly recognize the vital role of sustainability in shaping the industry’s future. With this article, we’ll explore the importance of sustainability – in many forms. Watch the video at the center of this article to hear the insights of some of our customers; experienced professional growers with varying cultivation backgrounds. These growers share their perspectives on sustainability, explaining what it means to them and how they integrate sustainable practices into their cultivation methods.

The growing importance and presence of sustainability

Sustainability is not just a “buzzword”; it has become a cornerstone in the horticultural industry. As the global population continues to rise, the demand for fresh, high-quality produce escalates, placing greater pressure on growers to adopt environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices. The demand rises, while scarcity of resources like water, eligible land, and raw materials continues to grow. By focussing on efficient use of materials, and efficient growing methods – in other words, by making sure that growing media and methods are fit for purpose, our industry can ensure a green and strong future.

To provide a firsthand account of the commitment to sustainability within the horticultural community, we’d like to share this video featuring our customers, professional growers who all show dedication to sustainable practices in their own companies. Each grower discusses their unique perspective on sustainability and shares valuable insights into the measures they employ and the innovations they have developed to minimize environmental impact, increase efficiency, and maintain social well-being.
