How can growers lower their environmental footprint?
Growers can reduce their environmental footprint by looking at the entire cultivation process and making improvements step by step. Substrates are one part of this approach, alongside choices in areas such as lighting, irrigation, heating, packaging and crop protection.
At BVB Substrates, we work closely with growers to develop substrate mixes with a lower environmental footprint, without compromising performance or lifespan.
Together with our customer SV.CO, a Dutch ornamental plant grower, we have tested raw materials such as Phalaris Fibre (reed canary grass) and wood fibre in substrates.
Grower’s continious work on sustainability by SV.CO
In the video, SV.CO Cultivation Specialist Thomas Botman explains how the company is working on developments across its cultivation process and the role substrates play in this journey.
Working together, step by step
Increasing the use of renewable raw materials requires more than changing the composition of a substrate. It also requires knowledge, practical experience and close cooperation between grower and substrate specialist.
